Migrating several Project Servers 2003 to one porject server 2007

Hi,

I have several independent project servers 2003 with different
configurations (i.e. each server has distinct “Project data†[= enterprise
projects, administrative projects, project templates,…] but also distinct
“Global dataâ€[= Enterprise Global Template, Enterprise resources, Project Web
Access data,…]).
I want to combine all these project servers 2003 and migrate to one(!)
project server 2007.
I already had a look at the “Migration for Office Project Server 2007â€
guide. I read in this guide that normally the “Global data†from the project
server 2003 has to be migrated to the project server 2007 and that “Global
data†can be migrated only once (if I want to use the migration tool from
Microsoft).
However in my case there are different project servers 2003 with different
“Gobal data†and therefore I think it won’t work the “normal†way.
As a result I think I have to “merge†all project servers 2003 to one
project server 2003 at first. Afterwards I can use the migration tool.
Is there any other way to solve my problem (e.g. another tool)?
If not, does anybody know where I can get some information (tutorials,
guides, best practice, workarounds, books,…) about “merging†different project
servers to one project server?

Thanks a lot,
Michael

Here's a frustrating answer: Merging multiple project servers to one
2007 server isn't supported, and is not easy to do. Except for doing a
project by project import on all the servers after the first.

2007's features make it tempting for consolidation, with support for
many custom fields (although only one set of required fields.) but the
migration tool is not built for that and won't support it.

I would not try to merge the project servers to one 2003 server, due
to several limitations there, particularly around the Enterprise
fields and resource pool.

I would make sure resources have the same names on the original 2003
instances and then try for a manual process to import to Project
Server 2007 using Project Pro.

You are unlikely to find much in the way of tutorials or best
practices for this, as it is a pretty rare activity. (Maybe I'm wrong,
I haven't searched on this lately.)

Hi James!

Your are right. That's really a frustrating answer.
But anyway thanks a lot.
I'll try my best and if I'll find any solutions I'll let you know.

Thanks,
Michael
