Migration from 2000 to XP and Update problem

P

Puzzled,

History - Where to begin – I had Office 2000 Professional installed and it had been working for a good while. When my subscription to McAfee ran out, I was forced to buy a new copy – Being in Sri Lanka is a dangerous environment for computers. Anyway, when I installed the new software the whole computer went nuts. After a lot of hair pulling, I got the McAfee software off however Office 2000 was acting berserk. Having had the great foresight to leave the 2000 disk at home in the US of A I had to go out and purchase another copy. I purchased Office 2000 Premium Edition and repeated attempts to sort the problems out were fruitless. The only other software the shop had was Office XP 2002 Professional edition. Well that loaded but then I had problems with outlook finding a mailbox and retrieving my addresses, etc… That was fixed through the use of Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 293058.

Okay, to the present – I notice I still have an entry in add remove programs for Office 2000 troubleshooters – when I try to fix, or change, or remove it says I need to load office 2000. When I check the automatic upgrade it says, go for SP-1. When I do that, it’s unable to load. All the programs (help about), information screen say SP-1 is loaded. When I try SP–2, I get the error message “the expected version of the product not found on your systemâ€

I’ve check all codes and serial numbers and that have been mentioned for other problems and have the valid numbers – I’ve checked all possible combinations of these problems via the search tool and still am at a loss

I’d appreciate any constructive guidance
