My company is finally upgrading their computers from Windows 2000
to Windows XP. All the Access databases have been written using
Access 2002. My question is will the upgrade to Windows 2002 have
any affect on the databases and if so WHAT?
Nobody calls WinXP Windows 2002, so I was thrown by that for a bit.
Anyway, it won't cause any internal changes to your application, but
you may see performance differences depending on the "skin" used in
WinXP. I hate the look of the default Luna interface (it seems more
appropriate to a child's operating system), and so always turn it
off in favor of Windows Classic. In the early days of WinXP, this
produced a noticeable performance improvement across all
applications. In later iterations of WinXP, I'm not so sure that it
still does.
The different sizes of the window widgets may cause any carefully
sized and placed forms to look different, though. That is, the
Access "chrome" may be differently sized under WinXP, particularly
if you retain the Luna skin.
Other than those really minor issues, I don't think you should see
any differences at all.
