I migrated from Entourage 2004 to Entourage v.X.
In the migration I didn't get back my mail database and all my contacts in
the new address book.
I still have a 18 MB file named Database under my old directory Entourage
2004, which contains - I assume... - my old mails and contacts.
How can I import this database in Entourage v.X ?
Help greatly appreciated.

Hi Nicolas,

the reason why you're having trouble is that Entourage 2004's database
format is different from Entourage X's, and since Entourage 2004 came out
years after v.X, it means that v.X doesn't know about the new database
format. In other words, you will *need* to have Entourage 2004 to access the
database so you can export it.

To export your email messages, drag the individual folders (inbox etc.) from
the folder list on the left side of the window to your desktop. This will
create .mbox files, which Entourage v.X should be able to import. Repeat
this for each folder you have. In Entourage v.X, simply drag and drop the
..mbox file into the folder list.

Now, for your contacts: in Entourage 2004, select File>Export, then "Local
contacts to a list". This will create a text file that you can import into
v.X through File>Import.

Hope this was helpful

Many thanks, Michel !

I guess I need to uninstall Entourage v.X since I can't open anymore
Entourage 2004: it switches to Entourage v.X (which is void of anything...).

Nicolas

What if my contacts are already in PST format and I no longer have access to
outlook on a PC ?

Now that's a problem that has been plaguing users for years now, and I'm
afraid to say that there is no simple, straightforward solution. Try
searching this newsgroup on Google News to see if you can find a solution;
most of the time, the people who want to import their PST files into
Entourage still have access to Outlook, and in that case, I'd recommend
LittleMachines' Outlook2Mac <>. Since you no longer have access to Outlook,
see if someone has already made a suggestion on the newsgroup.

Darn, I hit the wrong button, and the post was sent incomplete. Anyway,
here's the link for the Entourage newsgroup on Google:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage?lnk=srg

And here's a link for Little Machines' Outlook2Mac:

Also, I should add that you might come across Microsoft's PST Importer tool
for Entourage, but it will NOT work in your case; it can only import .PST
files from Outlook 2001 for the Mac.

I use EmailAlchemy to convert all email from one format to another. It
is very cheap (about $18US). If you want to convert your email
properly, you MUST purchase a license.
