Migration of 07pst to 03pst?

C

Craig

Currently, I am using Outlook 2003 under WinXP Pro-SP2. Pst file was
copied from the previous Outlook 97.
So far, I haven't encountered any problem.
I find it very difficult to change pst from 97format to 03format.
Is it necessary to change into 03format? Craig

You don't have to use the new unicode-format PST file if you don't want to,
but there are advantages to it (for example, it won't croak at 2GB). Note
that you can't convert the file - you'd have to create a new PST file in
Outlook, and copy your data from the old PST to the new one - you'd also
change the delivery location to the new file and then close the old one when
done.

Ok.
Upon reading your post, I should have a new PST.
I indeed created a new.pst in 2003 format (I learned how-to-do from this ng
a quite while back).
I stored the new xxx.pst in the same folder (hidden folder) where the older
Outlook.pst (97 format) resides.
copy your data from the old PST to the new one - you'd also change the
delivery location to the new file and then close the old one when done.

I got stuck at this point. I do not know how to copy and past from the old
pst to new pst file.
Could you please write step by step how to do?
I would very much appreciate. Regards, Craig.

Open both PST files in the same profile
Select what you like from the folders in the old one - right-click/hold,
drag to the new PST, and choose Copy
Rinse, lather, repeat
Change the delivery location to the new PST file (in tools | email accounts,
properties of your mail account, dropdown menu at the bottom)
Close/reopen Outlook and you should be able to close the old PST by right
clicking on it and choosing Close.

Hi Lanwench,

My question is how to open two old and new pst files.

In Office suite, we can open many doc or xls files and can switch among them
under Window toolbar.
But I could not open both old and new pst files at the same time.

That is where my problem is.

Please help me with this.

Regards,

Craig

Right-click the root of the PST and choose Properties. Click Advanced.
Examine the Format field. If it says "Personal Folders File", it's Unicode.
If it says "Personal Folders File (97-2002)", it's ANSI.
