Migration to Project Server

We are preparing to move our development team from a home grown task
management system to Project Server. Is there any documentation or reference
material that could tell us how to do a bulk import of our project/tasks into
Project Server? We'd like to move the data over in an automated fasion, but
we want to make sure everything goes to the right places.

gidmanma,

What format is your task data in now? It's pretty unlikely that it's already in a format that matches the project server database structure so you're in for some serious effort mapping the data from old to new formats. This may not even be feasible if you don't have all the data required by project server.

Let us know more about the current state of the task data and we'll see if we can help more.

Thanks for the quick response...

Currently the data is stored in SQL Server. We have tasks grouped by
projects and versions (not using "version" the same as Project Server uses
the term). Tasks can have multiple assignments based on role (Dev, QA, Doc,
etc).

We can take our data, reconfigure it, and spit it out in whatever format
works best for Project Server. We have a full range of technical skills in
house - we're just new to Project Server's data model and workflow.

Does this help or did I miss the question?

gidmanma,

Great news! It's not every day that you hear someone has the resources to do the work that's ahead of them.

My suggestion then is to get ahold of the Project Server ERD and start mapping and test loading data. You can get the ERDs off the Microsoft web site. Can't give a specific URL right off hand. I also have them if you'd like me to send them to you off the list.
