I have countless links to files on my computer from ON.
I changed computer, and under Windows 7, the location of My Documents is no
longer the same. Those links are all dead.
Would there be a way of changing all those links, my indicating to ON
somewhere that the first part of the path should be replaced by something
else? This option does exist with other software (I recently did just this
with ATLASti.
(ON 2010, Windows 7)
Thanks for your help

Couldn't you remodel your file-system so that you have the same folders
on the new system?
Perhaps a couple of NTFS-links might be of help.
If you need help for doing so, pls let us know.

Unfortunately there is no way to for some kind of "batch-conversion" to
achieve this :-( :-(
It would need a programmer to write a PowerToy.

Great!
Thanks for the follow up.
And pls excuse me for not having replied to your last posting. It seemed
to me that you were not familiar with "symbolic links", "hard links",
"junctions" etc. and so I looked around for material I might point you
to.

All the best

P.S. Your question led me to conclusion that we'd need at least a
PowerToy for changing the Hyperlinks to files in a bulk process. The
current situation may be a true obstacle when migrating from one
computer to another one - especially when moving from XP to Vista or
Win7 with their different hierarchies for the Standard folders.

I fully agree with that suggestion !!!

The current situation is just bad design, from the start on.
Now it becomes a pain ;-)

Two l ideas.
- locations might be made relative to current location, as an option,
from now on.
- but i would recommend your looking at the way atlas.ti
(www.atlasti.com) does it. Their well thought-out software is intended
to be used by various people in parallel, files are allowed to move,
to be shared .... I believe there are many commonalities.

as to my knowledge of hard links and such, you surmised correctly, I
had no idea what you meant, but your terse comment pointed me in the
right direction and by diligent sleuthing i worked out what i needed
(I still don't know much)
