Milestone external link problems

M

Merizak

I am making a master project sheet that summarizes many sub projects. I need
to link the milestones to the master project sheet from the sub project
sheet. When I link these milestones, many additional, non desired lines are
copied/linked onto the master project. In addition, these milestones are
portrayed at a date that does not corespond with the original date of the sub
project. The sub project is dated long in the past and when linked, they are
moved in the master project to the current date.

Help!!!

Hi,

You have to reset a couple of options:

Tools, Options, View, uncheck
Show extrernal predecessors
Show external successors

Tools, Options, Schedule, new tasks start on... select Start on Project
Start date

And,

In your master project,
Project, Project information, set Project astart date as the earliest start
date of the subprojects.

I found options and made the changes that you specified. But, there are
still subtasks displayed for the milestones. In addition, the date on the
milestones are not the ones that are evaluated in the subproject. Spatialy
the milestone is in the correct position and the finish date in the table is
correct, but the date displayed on the gant chart is incorrect.

If desired, I have an image of the problem.

Thanks

Hi,

If it is a milestone with a duration>0 then the image is on the start date
not the finish date. Does that help?

Sorry, as I understand the definition of a milestone, it is a 0 time duration
item. These additional lines that the link brings up are dependancies of the
milestone in the subproject.

Thanks.

Hi,

1. I thought we had solved the external task thing? I was now replying to
your complaint that the lozenge representing the milestone was on the wrong
spo.
Is that still your problem?

2. Any task can be a moilestone. That is controlled by the checkbox "Mark
task as milestone" inTask Information, Advanced. The 0 duration is not a
definition, it is only a default.
