milestones converting to tasks

I opened my file and a whole bunch of my milestones where converted to tasks.
It appears (though I can't be sure) that it was only done for milestones
that had durations greater than 0. This has happened more than once. Has
anybody else seen this phenomenom and have a suggestion for what we can do to
prevent it from occuring in the future? I've been MS-Project since '94 and I
never saw this before. As background, this particular file is stored on
Project Server (V2007) and we do have SP1.

It may just be the way that they are displayed. Double click on the task, go
to the "advanced" tab and see if the "Mark task as milestone" option is still
selected.

If so, you need to modify the view in the enterprise global so that they
display correctly.

the milestone column is one that I keep on my table. These items were
definately converted from Milestones to Tasks. So far I am the only one
noting this problem.

You should try updating your system beyond SP1. Install at least the
December CU. Hopefully, we'll see SP2 out next month or shortly thereafter.

I have the December CU installed and am still seeing milestone tasks being
converted to regular tasks as well. Any further suggestions?

we are still getting the error, though we have not yet loaded SP2, which just
came out.

Hi Gary - if you are who I think you are, you are teaching my admins today
(Eric and John). Eric told me that they were advised to wait 30 days for
stabilization before accepting SP2, but it is on our "To do" list.

Microsoft has on very rare occasions recalled service packs. It did, indeed,
happen with SP2 for Project Server 2003. I, personally, regard SP2 as a
soon-as-possible update. With the adoption of the new CU release model, I
think that we're far less likely to see this type of problem in the future.
So determine your urgency based on the problems solved, not some arbitrary
wait time like 30 days.

And, yes Eric and John are attending one of our open-enrollment courses this
week under the able tutelage of Tony Zink.
