Minimize = Close

When I am in Outlook and want to minimize it while I work on another
application, it closes completely instead. This does not happen with other
applications.

I am running Window XP.

Probably it's still running, and you can find its icon in the systray
(beside the clock).

No it doesn't. Right-click the Outlook icon in the Notification Area of the
system tray and uncheck "Hide When Minimized:.
