Minnor annoyance - Task Pane disappears on start up...

When I installed Excel, it used to display the task pane on the right hand
side of the screen, which shows a list of most recently used files,
templates, etc, and still does while it's loading and the splash
screen is showing. But it never used to load up the blank template. Now it
does, and the task pane disappears. It is not there when I close the blank
workbook leaving Excel open. Usually I access whatever I need to do in Excel
from the task pane. Is there any way to set it back the way it was?

You will need to move any files out of your xlStart folders. If there is
anything in there it loads and Excel presumes you don't need the start-up
task pane. This is unfortunate as this is also the case in some versions if
you have a personal.xls file in it which may be useful

Thanks, have deleted the offending item - was a program that I installed
that created an add in (would never use Excel in relation to this program).
However, although the task pane now loads, is there any way I can stop the
blank template loading also?

Is it really necessary to prevent the blank workbook from loading? If
you open a file immediately after starting Excel, the unused blank
workbook goes away.

No, I suppose not. But was just trying to reset Excel to the way it was
before I installed this other program.

You can prevent the splash screen and blank workbook by applying the /e
switch to the shortcut from which you start Excel. Look in Help under
"Starting Microsoft Excel" for details.
