Minor crisis - cross referencing

OK, long story, bad memory, probably will mess up some details. Do my
best.

using Word 2003 I created a template that required figure and table
numbers in appendices to be labeled A-1, A-2, B-1, etc. Previous help
on this forum led me to creating a new seq label (SEQ Table_appx, SEQ
Figure_appx). Then, when I needed to cross referenced it, it would
appear in the drop-down box under Reference Type along with numbered
item, heading, bookmark, etc. Beautiful.

So, I moved a document I drafted with this template to a computer with
Word 2000 on it. Many features disappeared, but most importantly, the
ability to cross-reference these new SEQ types did not appear. They
did not appear under any of the listed items. Now, I could create
bookmarks, but wanted the cleaner solution offered by 2003. So I
convinced my management to upgrade the software (other reasons as well,
not just this). So I did, and expected the cross reference to
Table_appx and Figure_appx to now appear in the "Reference Type"
drop-down box in the Cross reference Dialogue box...nope. Not there.

Help? What did I miss? How do I get them into the cross reference
list like they were before?

Thanks!
