Missed words in spell check

Spell check routinely missed obviously misspelled words. Even if I select a
mispelled word, spell check says the word is spelled corretly. I've checked
to make sure the misspelled words weren't accidentally posted to my custom
dictionary. I've experienced this problem off and on with spell check for
several years, even on previoius versions of Word. Very frustating. I have
no confidence in the spell check function.

System: Word X, running on an iMac.

I'm not familiar with MAC Word and there is a Newsgroup for MAC Word that
may be a better place to post this.

However, in Winword, this is usually because the paragraph that the misspelt
word has been marked for Do Not Check Spelling or Grammar under Tools,
Language. Often this is because the style of the paragraph has this set as
default.

Try selecting the whole document (Ctrl+A) and then use Tools, Language, Set
Language and make sure that the correct language is set and that the Do Not
Check Spelling & Grammar box is clear. Then press DEFAULT.
