Missing AUthor.exe File

Hi, I am running FrontPage 2003. I am trying to publish my site from my
computer to my comcast site. I have already asked them about this problem
and said its a microsoft issue, and to deal with them.

Whenever I click the "Publish Web site" button, I always get the same error
message:
404 Not Found
Not Found The requested URL /~kj_bennett/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.exe
was not found on this server. Apache/1.3.27 Server at home.comcast.net Port
80

This also happens if I select more then one file manually to publish to the
Comcast site. Frontpage 2003 extensions are enabled, and I just purchased
this software, so I doubt it could have gone defective, and it seems many
other people have had the same problem.

My website is up and running, but I seem to not be able to submit forms,
which is a major part of my website. Thank you.

is your server running the server extensions? if not, you won't be able to
publish via the http: method and this accounts for why you can't send form data.

I presume Apache/1.3.27 server refers to a unix/linux server - for which server
extensions are available but not to the same extent as for windows.

FP2003 extensions do not exist, anywhere. Your site does not appear to have
any version of FrontPage extensions.

I am subscribed as to having FrontPage Server Extensions for my website. I
have also looked in to the site through comcast itself and I see the _vti_cnf
folder. How else would I go about getting this to work then if comcast's
site says I am subscribed, and you said I don't. Of course this is only a
temporary site until the real site can be uploaded to , so hopefully I won't
have to go through this twice.

Where do my form results end up?
They end up in a file in your https://home.comcast.net/~username/_private/ directory (where
username is your e-mail username). This directory is only available over SSL (note the
'https:') and requires your e-mail username and e-mail password to access its contents.

What are all these _vti_cnf directories?
Do their contents count against my disk space usage?
FrontPage makes those directories to help it synchronize and track dependencies between files.

Note that these are never served up by the web servers, so no one can see their contents but
you.
