Missing column in subtotal

A

Alan

Hello -
I am using XL2002 and whenever I generate a basic subtotal list, the views
available are missing a column that I need to see. How can I add an
existing column to a subtotaled list for viewing?
Thnaks!

Is this a Custom View (like you'd get via View|Custom Views... on the toolbar)?

If yes, then maybe you can just modify the existing view to include that extra
column--or just make a new custom view.

If it's not a custom view, maybe the column is simply hidden????

No, it is not a custom view, I have a spreadsheet with 5 columns and when I
view just the subtotaled items [by clicking the 2 button at the top of the
subtotaled list], it shows the column headers for the other fields that are
there but not being subtotaled, but the data for those fields is not
visible.
hard to explain !
Thanbks for your help and interest. I actually just ended up spoending the
timne copying the data back into the subtotaled sheet [had to get it done!]

If you're saying that you have a list of 5 columns and you applied
data|subtotals to it. And you only summed 2 columns, then that's normal.

You only see the columns that you checked (for sum/count/etc) and the control
column ("at each change in").

The other stuff is details that could actually vary within each group--so excel
wouldn't be able to guess which one to show.

And you didn't ask, but since you're doing subtotals, you may want to look at
Data|pivottables. You can get the summary stuff (usually faster) and do a lot
more things with a lot less work--after the you pass the learning curve.

Here are some links for pivottable info:

Debra Dalgleish's pictures at Jon Peltier's site:

And Debra's own site:

John Walkenbach also has some at:

(look for Tony Gwynn's Hit Database)

Chip Pearson keeps Harald Staff's notes at:

MS has some at (xl2000 and xl2002):
