I have used Word 2003 fine on my XP laptop for six months or so but today via
Outlook I get "MW is set to be your email editor. However, Word is
unavailable, not installed or is not the same version as Outlook ... ---
then it presents a dialog "Your current security settings prohibit running
ActiveX controls on this page"

Word wants to look for SKU1CA.CAB --- why and why has this suddenly happened ?

There are numerous reasons for an installation to become corrupt. Did
you try using Detect and Repair?

Yes I went and got my Office CD and took the repair option. It's fixed some
of it in that now Outlook and Word co-exist and I don't get the missing
SKU1CA.CAB message --- but I still get the "Your current security settings
prohibit running
ActiveX controls on this page" with pictures in Outlook emails --- and I did
nothing to change the ActiveX settings. I can't find anywhere to change
this setting in XP ?????????????????????

Probably a result of one of the recent security updates? I'm getting that a
*lot* on Web pages.
