Missing file - scanpst.hlp

Jess

I have recently re-installed Office 2003 and found an oddity (that was also
there before I re-installed it), namely that my registry checker (Norton
WinDoctor) has found something ( a shortcut, I think it is) that refers to a
non-existent file, "scanpst.hlp". Apparently, the file was expected to be in
"Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033". But it is not there, nor
anywhere else on my hard disk. (Although there is a .exe there with the same
prefix.)

I believe the file in question is something to do with repairing some part
of Office. So my questions are these... Is the repair .exe some kind of
self-installing program that contains the help file (i.e. will it appear if I
need it.). Or, if such a repair scenario arises, will the repair program ask
me for the CD to access this help file? (I did do a "complete" install.) Or
is it just one of the many quirks in life?

And should I delete the registry item which points to this non-existant file?

Any ideas will be appreciated, thanks.

Scanpst.exe is used to repair a .pst file from Outlook if required. AFAIK,
the help file will only be created if you actually run scanpst.exe.

After furious head-scratching, Jess asked this group:

Thanks. So it is almost as I suspected. What is "AFAIK"? Any suggestions
regarding the registry shortcut - leave it alone, or delete it? Or maybe
I'll pretend to repair something...

Anyway, my main concern has been addressed. A very big, "Thank you".
