Missing Find Box

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Power PC Email Client: Exchange Command F no longer opens a 'Find' Dialog Box where I usually can select the details of my search (folder, content, etc.). Instead, it acts as if it did a search: It turns my message list pane into a search results pane saying "There are no messages in this folder". If I try entering a search term into the spotlight search box (within Entourage) it does the same thing (that is, I don't get a chance to select what to search). Any help is appreciated.

Command-F now opens the Quick Filter bar that appears below the Search
field and above the message list area.

Enter your search term there and you should be able to continue with
your find.

Hope this helps!

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I see that box at least when I do advanced search. However, I see no way to tell it to search WITHIN an email so I am still stuck.

There are two searches in Entourage 2008 now: 1) Spotlight search and 2)
Simple find. The Spotlight search allows you to search contents.

Advanced find now bring up the Spotlight search window for Entourage 2008.

Diane and all,
Sorry for the delay. I read all the links you gave and still have the same problem. My OS on both computers is 10.4.11 and my entourage version is identical (13.0.3), yet my computer at work can search within a message and my computer at home cannot (via Entourage, that is). With my computer at work I can either use spotlight or command F to give a separate window that I can choose options from. That window does not appear on my home computer. There must be an option somewhere to choose to have the command/F open that window rather than doing a spotlight search. Is the issue I'm describing clear? I am not trying to search 'content' as in searching the insides of a bunch of emails for a key word and finding which have it. I am trying to search within a SINGLE (caps for clarity ; ) ) email to find a keyword over and over, just like you would get if you had a Word doc open and did command/F and searched for a word. I want Entourage to find the word and highlight it and wait for me to press command/G to find it the next time, etc.
Please help. This works on Entourage 2008 at work and used to work at home but I have somehow lost the option.

On 1/4/10 1:06 PM, in article (e-mail address removed)2ac0,

Steps to help determine where the problem is located.

1. you can eliminate your Identity by creating a new Identity in Entourage
and see if you experience the same problem. In your situation, you can drag
a few messages to the desktop for testing in the new Identity. Since it's
not a send & receive issue there is no need to even enter account info. Just
drag in the messages and test search.

2) if a new Identity still exhibits the same issues, then create a new User
in System Preferences and test Entourage there. You can also move your
problem Identity to the Shared folder so you can access it in the new test
User. Remember to move it back. When you drag from Shared in the new User,
it copies the file. Remember to set to "work off line "or "leave on server".

3) If the problems still exist in the new User, it's a problem with your
Office install or your base OS files.

Let me know what you find.

Here is what I tried. I created a new user on my mac, set up Entourage 2004, connected with the server, did a search and the Find box came up fine and worked as before. Then I went back to my other user login and tried Entourage 2004 also. The Find also worked there, giving me the dialog box that I get at work. So if the current user and a new user work fine with FIND in Entourage 2004 and also my Entourage 2008 works fine with FIND at work then it seems like it is my current Entourage 2008 on my home computer that is the problem. Where should I go from here?
Thank you,
dcp
