Missing Hyperlinks

T

Tammy

Using Project Server 2003 with Project 2003 on the desktop.
We have some projects that we've been working with for a while and have put
in lots of hyperlinks to document libraries.
Last week many of those hyperlinks disappeared from the Project Center PWA
view. However, the hyperlinks do still exist on their respective tasks and
can be viewed via other methods. Why did they disappear from this particular
view and how do we get them back? I saw a similar question posted back in
January with no response-I'm hoping that someone now has some information
regarding this problem. Thanks!

Tammy,

Which view were the hyplerlinks appearing in? Did someone (a project server admin) change the view so that the field is no longer shown in that view?

I'm not sure that you can see anywhere when/who changed the view - but you could/should ask around.

Earl,

Thanks for your reply. I'm still trying to get the answer from the end user
as to the specific view (they are not at my location). And, no, there is
only 1 person with project admin rights and is the one who reported the
problem-he has not changed any views. Hopefully, I'll have the answer on
which view here soon. I only know it's in the Project Center.

Thanks,
Tammy

Tammy,

There are lots of views and fields available in both project pro and PWA. This sounds like it could be a case of confusion on someone's part (maybe your project server admin) - especially if the problem is being reported to you by someone else.

I would do the following:

1) Identify exactly which field that the hyperlinks were stored in - there are at least 3 that are named something to do with hyperlinks and you could add others by customization. Open a plan in project pro that has hyperlinks that still work and check the field name there.

2) Go to PWA and verify which view these links are supposed to appear in - Summary I guess.

3) Verify that the correct field is being used/displayed in that view.

If everything checks out, i.e. the proper field is being displayed in the view that the hyperlink is expected to appear in, then there's a very strange problem.

Also, clarify for us: 1) if the field is not present in the view anymore, 2) if the text of the link is there but no longer acts as a hyperlink in PWA, 3) if the field is there but the link is just plain old missing, and 4) where you can and can't see these links as you described in your original post.

Earl

Earl, I just found out that the View in question is the 'Summary' view.

Yes, let me clarify. The field still exists in the view, but the hyperlink
indicator (icon-which allows you to click on it and go to the document) is no
longer visible in the hyperlink field on that view. It WAS visible for
any/all tasks that had underlying hyperlinks created for them and then one
day they opened the project(s) and the hyperlink indicators were gone. The
hyperlinks do still exist/are stored in the appropriate field. It's just the
indicator is missing so you don't know that the task has a hyperlink
associated with it when you're in that view.

Thanks,
Tammy

Tammy,

Sounds like were getting closer but still have questions. Are you talking about the indicator column that appears to the far left of most of the views - in both PWA and Project Pro?

From what I know this column behaves differently between PWA and project pro. In PWA it will show you when you have issues, risks and documents associated with a project or task. In project pro it will show a hyperlink icon that will take you to a hyperlink you define - but I don't think this behavior carries over to PWA. Hope that helps.

Earl,

Thanks very much for your time and help on this. Yes, it does show a
hyperlink icon in PWA view for attached documents. We'll keep investigating
it to see if we can come up with some rhyme or reason. I have suggested that
they re-create the hyperlinks (even though the hyperlink info itself is still
stored with the task) to see if by some chance, that the hyperlink icon
reappears in that column in PWA. Again, I appreciate your assistance with
this.

Tammy,

You could simply add the hyperlink field to the Summary view in PWA.

I don't think anything you do will get the link/icon to show in the indicator column in PWA.
