Missing Menu Bar in Word

O

Old Bill

I have reinstalled Office 2000 (Premium) on XP Home. All OK other than in
Word - where the Menu Bar and Toolbars are missing, i.e. only have Title bar
and Ruler in all views.

Any clues appreciated.

Try the following:

1. On the Tools menu click Customize.
2. Click the Toolbars tab.
3. If the "Standard" and "Menu Bar" toolbars are not checked, select them
and click Close.

Hope this helps.

Thanks again.

Havn't got any Tool bar Icons, so ... strange I know. Have read a KB
article making some suggestions, but?

Have tried Safe mode and is still the same, but if I log on as Administrator
(in safe mode) all is OK. Is there some way I can make that the default
template?

That makes sense :)

In that case, try:

1. right-click <any> toolbar icon and then click Customize.
2. Click the Toolbars tab.
3. Select "Menu Bar" and then click Reset.
4. click Close.

It looks like Word stores its toolbar customizations in the Data key in the
registry. The following article has the path to this key:

211793 WD2000: How to Reset User Options and Registry Settings
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=211793

IMPORTANT: This article/post contains information about modifying the
registry. Before you modify the registry, make sure to back it up and make
sure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem occurs.
For information about how to back up, restore, and edit the registry, click
the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge
Base:

256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=256986

So, I would suggest:

1. Exit Word.
2. Rename the following key in the registry

HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Data

3. Start Word.

You may lose other Word configuration settings but you should get your
toolbars back.
