Missing Menu Options In Word 2004

Version: 2004

Hi I have a friend asking me questions I can't answer. He has a 2 year old Imac with Word 2004 installed. And part of his Menu is gone. He says View, Format and Tools is missing. From what I can read in the forum you need the Tools option to reset the menu. Is there any other way? He said he tried reinstalling without that fixing the problem.

Thanks,

JT

Hi JT -

I applaud your effort to help out your friend, but the first piece of advice
to offer is that reinstalling rarely fixes anything & often makes things
worse. It's usually a last resort because the application files aren't the
problem & even when reinstalling is needed it must be preceded by a proper
removal in order to have any positive result.

It sounds like your friend is in need of (a) updating Office & perhaps the
Mac OS as well, and (b) repairing disk permissions. It's quite possible that
reinstalling has messed up the update levels. Confirm that Office has been
updated (11.5.1 is current) and that permissions have been repaired, then
shut down the Mac & start up again. If that doesn't correct the problem let
us know, but it's pointless to attempt anything else until the installation
is solid enough for the fix to mean something.

I have Word 2004. Under FORMAT some of the choices have disappeared. Calling Microsoft doesn't help. They don't recognize Word 2004.

Help please. Thanks

Do you happen to be in Notebook Layout View? Many Format commands are
automatically removed if you are because those features can't be used.

If that isn't the problem make sure you have Office 2004 fully updated to
11.5.1 ‹ use Help> Check for Updates to be sure. If/once you're fully
updated you still have the problem try going to Tools> Customize> Customize
Toolbars/Menus, on the Toolbars page click the *name* of the Menu Bar, then
click Reset.

If things still don't return to normal see the troubleshooting steps here
