Missing MS Office Document Imaging Writer after Office 2003 SP3 up

I am sure that others have this problem if they use their MSODIW on a regular
basis.

Automatic update to MS Office SP3 left me without the Microsoft Office
Document Imaging Writer print option. The icon is gone in Printer/Faxes
folder and in all applications with the Print command. It also removed my MDI
files program association. I had to reassociate my MDI files to open with the
MODI program.

I have used the Image Writer daily without any problems previously, so the
SP3 update is the culprit. The print drivers are still installed though. I
haven't noticed any other problems.

My question is: How do I get the Imaging Writer back so that I can "save as"
and use the "print" option to "Microsoft Office Document Imaging Writer"?

I use XP SP2 and MS Office Pro 2003.

I am replying to my own posting after not receivng any response and
researching this problem and coming up with my own solution. Following is
what I did, although I am not sure if this will work for others.

1. Go to Control Panel Add or Remove Programs
2. Click on MS Office and select Change
3. Select Reinstall or Repair
4. Select Next
5. Select Detect and repair errors in my Office installation
6. Click on Install

I was asked to insert my original installation CD and after a sequence of
installation/repairs, my MSODIW was back operating.

I found that different than before, the Image Writer would only save in the
TIFF monochrome fax format. Previously before the Office SP3 update, it would
save in the MDI format. This is how I fixed this to my original setting.

1. Go to Printers and Faxes Folder
2. Select Microsoft Office Document Image Writer (right click)
3. Select Printing Preferences
4. Select Advanced tab
5. Under Output Format select MDI – Compressed Document Format and Compress
images in the document
6. Select OK

Everything seems to be back to normal. Of course time will tell.
