Missing Normal.dotm

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

I tried installing Mac Office 2008 twice. Each time when I try to save a Word document I receive the following message "A file error has occurred. Check your network connections or make sure your disk is properly inserted and not defective. (Normal.dotm)

When I click OK, I get the SAVE Box requiring me to save Normal.dotm to My Templates. When I hit Save, it returns to the same SAVE Box asking for the same response.

I tried the advice on replacing a missing Normal.dotm, but when I hit Attach, I can click on My Template folder...but the OPEN button is not available..it is grey.

I am at a loss. Is my install disk defective?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

A couple of issues---

for the "file error has occurred", see here:
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Word2008Issues.html#FileError

Re replacing a missing Normal.dotm--uh, there shouldn't be an Attach
button involved anywhere. I think you might have done it wrong--what
advice were you following? The above link links to the right instructions.

Your install disk is probably fine.

HOWEVER, if you just reinstalled Office over an existing installation,
without Removing it first, it's possible for that to mess up an
installation (and that NEVER fixes problems, pretty much). So even if
the steps above fix the original issue, there could be a new issue that
you might run into. Be sure to re-run all updates, first, and
cross-your-fingers that it behaves.

Did you repair disk permissions following the installation?
