missing object in Outlook 2003.

I have an identical problem to Nina's. When I clicked send/receive (or
automatically), I got the message, " The opertion failed. An object could
not be found.". I have added profiles, changed, deleted, added mail
accounts (pop3). Detect & repair, downloaded the Office 2003 SP-1 and
installed. Outlook Express does work, but I need the Outlook features. I
did manage to synch a Tungsten E (after downloading their updates). When I
test the account, it says "check e-mail address" but the email address is
correct. ?? Sue

Did you try making a new profile? it sounds like the address book is
missing -

Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change existing directories or
address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present? If it isn't listed, add
it and close and restart Outlook. If it is listed, then remove it and close
then restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add it.

I tried it. It didn't work. After reviewing this and the remaining threads,
I went everyplace (Outlook, Outlook Express, Mail thru control panel) and got
rid of all profiles, address books, and email accounts. When I went back
through the control panel and set up 1st a new profile, and then a new e-mail
account, the Outlook program seemed to work. Only the account settings were
screwy, the test kept connecting but would send the e-mail. I finally
removed the auth from smtpauth. and BINGO! I think Dell (it's a brand new
machine) had set up one profile. When I first connected to Earthlink on
setup, it made another account and profile. Thanks for your help! Without
the discussion thread, we would have probably e-mailed each other 10 times.
I do notice a lot of people with similar problems, but there is never a
followup email to find out how they fixed their problems. I hope this helps
somebody. Sue
