Missing Office 2002 Help Files

G

Geoff

Missing Help Files:
comctl1.hlp
cmctl198.chm

The above two help files are not installed on my system. They are associated
with the TreeView ActiveX controls Versions 5 and 6 respectively. The
ActiveX controls are installed on my system, which is running Windows XP.

When I try to access the help files, a message appears saying the help files
are not installed in C:\Windows\System32 and I am prompted to re-install
them.

(For the sake of clarity, this prompt occurs when I'm in Microsoft Access
form-design view and I click the Help button in the TreeView control's
custom Properties dialog. This is the dialog that opens when I right-click
the TreeView control, select "TreeCtrl Object" on the right-click menu, and
click "Properties" on the submenu.)

I have used Windows Explorer to search the hard disc. The help files are
nowhere to be found.

Therefore, as instructed by the prompt, I've re-run Office 2002 setup and
Office 2002 Developer Setup. However, the installation dialogs on both CDs
do not specifically show the installation of the TreeView controls, nor
their help files. In any case, everything that can be selected for
installation is already installed.

I've searched the Microsoft website and the Microsoft Download Centre for
both help files. There is no information available concerning how to install
them or on how to download and install them.

What do I need to do please to get these help files installed?

TIA
Geoff

PS I'm posting this in the Office Setup and Access ActiveX controls
newsgroups.

Apologies for not replying sooner to this newsgroup, which I had
unsynchronised.

I have not tried Detect and Repair. Respondants to the Access ActiveX
Controls newsgroup (where I duplicated my original post) pointed to a
website from which the help files could be downloaded. I've now copied them
to my system.

Help for Version 5 of the Treeview control works from within Object Browser
and from the control's custom properties dialog. Help for Version 6 only
works from Windows Explorer. There may be issues with regard to using
Version 6 with Access.
