missing open command

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel in the file menu, "open recent" no longer appears as an option. Can it be replaced, or is it only accessible from the apple "recent items"? In a related question, can "open recent" be placed in the toolbar, or is only "open" available?

First thing to check: In Word> Preferences> General make sure 'Track
recently opened documents' is checked & that the number is >0. That will not
restore any filenames that were previously there but the feature will begin
to track again as you continue to work.

If that isn't the fix you'll need to reset the Menu Bar, so let us know how
you make out.

Thank you. That exactly did the job.
