Missing Outlook notifications

I'm using Outlook 2007 with Microsoft Exchange. The icons that indicate if an
email has been replied to or forwarded are not working. I only get the blank
envelopes without the arrows on them that show whether you've replied or
forwarded. For example, you write to me, I reply to you, Outlook does not
indicate that I have replied. HELP!!
