Missing Pictures

I created a PP presentation. Certain slides included inserted pictures.
After reviewing PP, file was saved & closed normally. Next day, (upon
opening) I noticed several slides had a big red X where the picture used to
be. Why? Slide-by-slide, I re-inserted the picture & 'saved' the file after
each one. Next opening, some were in there, but some were still big red Xs

I've verfied all Microsft updates are up-to-date. I ran complete virus scan
& Windows Defender and everything is normal.

Help! Where di the pictures go?
