missing tabs, menus, ribbons

I am missing the tabs, menus, and ribbons in Word & Excel. I tried recreating
the normal.dotm file as suggested by the support site but they are still
missing on this one PC. I have Office Ultimate installed...I tried to copy a
normal.dotm from another PC with Office Ulitimate on it, but the only thing I
see is the Acrobat Add-In Ribbon. Everything else is non-existent. Any other
suggestions?? I have even uninstalled and reinstalled Office Ulitmate and it
did not correct the issue. They toolbars/menus/ribbons were working fine and
then the user of the PC did "something" and now they are all gone, but I know
they did work at one time....

I have done this as well. If I go to Start-Run-winword.exe /a all of the
ribbons and menus come back. SO I closed word and deleted the Data folder out
of the registry key and opened word normally and they are still
missing...what am I missing???

If all is well when you start in Safe Mode, it means that Word itself is
actually OK and there is some outside influence causing this. It may be a
corrupt normal.dot, a bad add-in template or the Word DataKey is being
corrupted.

Are you sure that you definitely deleted the correct DataKey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\version number\Word\Data

If so, try renaming normal.dot to normal.bad.

If the menus are still missing, try looking for a rogue add-in. See how to
find add-ins:

Thanks Terry...I actually tried all of that...I started with the normal.dot
file. I decided to scrap the user profile and renamed it XXX.old and logged
in again...all was fine. Something corrupted in the profile to cause the
issue. Interesting though...
