Missing Templates

Has anyone experienced a case of the invisible template? We are using
Win2k/Word 2K.
Every so often, one of my secretaries will call me frantic because the
header/footer of our letterhead template "disappear". But when you switch
to Print Preview, or if you actualy print the document, its fine. It is only
in Print Layout view that it suddenly becomes invisible. I haven't beenable
to link it number of pages or any other systematic logic. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Monica

Are you sure this is Word 2000? It sounds as if your secretaries have "white
space" hidden, but this feature was introduced in Word 2002. Tell them to
go to Tools | Options | View and check the box for "White space between
pages." Alternatively, if they will hover the mouse over the space between
pages until the pointer turns to a double-headed arrow and they see the
ScreenTip "Show White Space," then click, it will magically reappear. The
reverse of this procedure is probably how they caused it to disappear.

Thanks, but no, this is definetly 2000, and its not whoite space. Its the
text of the Header/Footer suddenly becoming invisible during editing, at
other times being visible, but always printing just fine.

So it's not the header/footer space itself that's disappearing but just the
text in the header/footer? I'm sure there must be some other explanation,
but the only one I can think of offhand is that the text is formatted as
Hidden. This would cause it to appear and disappear as the display of
nonprinting characters was toggled on and off. To print it, however, you'd
have to have "Hidden text" checked on the Print tab of Tools | Options.
