Mixed client versioning problem

D

Duncan

I have Groove 2007.
A number of my correspondents also use Groove 2007 and we communicate
correctly.
Another set of correspondents use Groove 3.1 and they cannot communicate
with me, although I understand that at least one other guy with 2007 can do
so.

Questions:
1. What setting, if any, do I have to make in my copy of Groove 2007 in
order to communicate with the 3.1 client set?
2. I note that in my copy, I can search for recipients [Send Message>> Add
more.... >> Search for User >> 'Include Public Groove Directory' ticked. ]
This apparently does not include recipients on the 3.1 Public Directory.
They can't see me either.
2a. Why is this?
2b. How do I resolve this?

3. Will I be able to invite 3.1 correspondents to my 2007 workspaces?
4. Will 3.1 users be able to invite me to theirs?
5. Why isn't all this more clearly signposted in Microsoft?

in anticipation
regards,
Duncan.

What do you mean by communicate ?
In a standard installation, there's no restriction about sending messages
from a Groove 2007 user to a Groove 3.1 user.
But there are some restrictions on the way you share workspaces (see below)
On another hand, if you are running Groove on a Groove domain (ie use Groove
Enterprise Services or onsite Groove Manager Server), it is possible that
your administrator defined some restrictions about communication
capabilities (workspaces versions and Groove contacts you can reach)
2. I note that in my copy, I can search for recipients [Send Message>> Add
more.... >> Search for User >> 'Include Public Groove Directory' ticked. ]
This apparently does not include recipients on the 3.1 Public Directory.
They can't see me either.

2b. How do I resolve this?

I confirm that Groove 3.1 and Groove 2007 directories are not merged...
Unfortunately.
- The best way is to ask your contacts to send you their Groove VCard by
email. Then, you will be able to add them in Your Contacts.
- Another way is to ask a Groove 3.1 user to create a 3.1 workspace, add a
contacts Tool in this workspace and finally invite both already known Groove
2007 and Groove 3.1 users in this workspace. Then ask both Groove 2007 and
Groove 3.1 users to add interessting contacts in this tool : it will the
only way to merge both Groove 3.1 and Groove 2007 contacts in a single view.
3. Will I be able to invite 3.1 correspondents to my 2007 workspaces? No.

4. Will 3.1 users be able to invite me to theirs?
Yes. You will have to uncheck "Invite me only in Groove 2007 workspaces"
option in your launchbar > options > preferences > security window
Note that if you are running Groove on a Groove domain, this feature is
maybe blocked by your administrator.
