mixing different source formats

I have to make a presentation consisting of various charts from
different other presentations. Because of trademark protections etc.
it is very important to keep the originals exactly the same. When I
use copy-> paste the original formatting gets lost and things like
tables etc. tend to change...not funny! I guess I could make this
work by making pictures of each individual slide and then pasting
these in an empty presentation but it seems cumbersome (I have 300 +
charts!). Is there a quicker way to ensure the orginal formatting
stays embedded (and that things like tables etc. don't change grrr).

I don't know the answers offhand, but a couple questions that might help others
give you better answers:

What version of PowerPoint do you use, and have you applied any available
updates?

What's the source of the charts in these other presentations? MSGraph, Excel
or something else?

Any chance that the source presentation(s) are from PC PPT versions?

What fonts do the source slides use? Are the same fonts installed on your
computer? Missing fonts can really mess up formatting.

Sorry Steve, I appear to have replied directly to your personal mail
address. That was not my intention. I use a brand new iMAC 2.16GHz
with Office 2004 fully updated. The originals are all powerpoint
presentations from different research agencies in different countries
- most likely about all PC PPT, and all having lots of graphs, tables
and other funnies. From your questions I figure there's no magic
solutions here - I have started the screenshot routing (capture, drag,
paste, crop etc) it takes about 2 mins per slide...i.e. a solid 24
hours to go :( Any suggestions to make this routine faster are highly
welcomed!

Hi Fredeic -

Have you tried using the Insert>Slides from File method rather than
copy/paste? You may still not get the quality you want based on the variable
sources you're dealing with, but it should come much closer. It replicates
the actual slide in the receiving file rather than just what's on the
"surface" of a slide when you copy it.

No problem ... it's a bogus address. said:

Yes ... visit http://www.pptfaq.com/ and search on "batch import"
There's a batch image importing tool from Mac MVP Jim Gordon and there's also some
VBA that should work on Mac too.

Either one will let you batch import the images you've exported.

Big time saver!

Bob, Steve,

Thanks! I tried Bob's Insert from File and flagged the "keep original
design" at the bottom. So far it works like a charm, even for
inserting more complex charts with pics, tables and graphs...all on
one slide! Steve, I'll keep the batch import as a back up. The issue
is that I have to select only certain slides form every presentation
and for this Bob's tip is unbeatable.
BTW I still have a little thing nagging me (posted previously). At the
time Jim gave me a workaround but it was not great. it concerns the
viewing size in slidesorter..in Office for Mac it does not go beyond
100 % (on pc's it does), i.e. for presentations with many slides like
the ones I work with, I can hardly see what is on the slides in
slidesorter which again doesn't make selecting any easier. My
repeating this is simply so you folks won't forget to flag it before
you give the final go on Office 2008 :0)

Cheers & thanks for your help, you saved me many many hours of dearly
needed sleep!!

Us folks is you folks. We're not MS employees ... just users who like to volunteer

The best way to cast your vote for this one is to use the Help, Contact feature.
The more votes, the more likely it is to get resources to fix it.
