I'm doing a paper for my freshman english class, and we have to use MLA format. I have a Mac notebook with microsoft office, and I can't figure out how to insert page numbers with my last name in front of them, like Smith 1, Smith 2, etc. I can only get plain page numbers. Help, please!

Dear [whoever],

Someone else may have more specific knowledge of MLA formatting (I haven't
heard of it here in Australia) and give advice more specific to Word 2008,
so check back.

In Word 2004 and earlier, it's simple: apply page numbers to headers or
footers by choosing View menu » Header and footer » type up the header or
footer (which in your case would include "Smith"), including alignment, and
add the page number via the ³#² button on the toolbar that appears.

It's much better to do it this way than using a text box.
