I've never gotten a laptop, so my question is this:
If I clone my Mac HD to a new laptop
1) Will I be able to easily receive/send e mail with all currents accounts
on the road at hotels? Do hotels need WiFi? How does that work.
2) What do I do when I get home to synchronize that what Entourage has on
the laptop to match what Entourage has at home.
Also curious if anyone has dealt with e mail with iphone or itouch and how
that experience compares to doing it will full fledged laptop
Hi Kevs!
If you clone your HD to your laptop then it will work just like the
desktop. Obviously, you've never taken your desktop on a trip, so you're
in for an experience and a small learning curve.
Laptop users who travel are euphemistically called "Road Warriors".
Their goal is to be able to travel anywhere and be able to still conduct
business. That usually means getting connected to the Internet and back
to the office. They become experts at reconfiguring things for different
situations.
Many hotels, even the smaller ones, are offering WiFi. It's easier to
install than running wires. But you need to make sure that if your hotel
offers only WiFi and not wired Internet you request a room with a decent
signal.
Some hotels charge for WiFI. Some don't. Any more, it's a courtesy to
travelers. Look for free WiFi or you'll probably spend about $10/24
hours. Every hotel's implementation is different. They will have
instructions for how you should connect and often have a tech support
phone number just in case.
I have an iPhone and love it. But it's no substitute for my laptop.
However, I only use my laptop in the evening if traveling for personal
business. If I were traveling for the day then my iPhone is just fine to
keep in touch.
Don't try to sync Entourage with Entourage. You want IMAP or Exchange
E-mail accounts. Those sync with Entourage and then changes made in one
place get synced to the server and over to other computers that are also
connecting to the same accounts. Very easy to use and great for
travelers or people with multiple computers. And iPhone supports IMAP too.
Hope this helps!
