Moderated message board

How can I convert my web site's message board into a moderated
message board? I have been hit by a barrage of Chinese
freeloaders who post their advertisements on our web site's
message board. I would like to regain control of this message
board by converting it into a moderated board. Can this be done
with FP 2000 or 2003?

Also, is there any way to re-index the bulletin board messages. I
have deleted so many freeloader messages that the number sequence
is in a mess. Is it possible to re-index the remaining messages
in a numerical sequence? I have done a "Repair hyperlinks" and I
do get the message when I start FP and open my web, stating that
the index numbers need to be reset. I do this, regularly, but
this does not affect the message number sequence.

Not when using the FP Discussion Web component.

You can have the message emailed to your then you would have cut & paste them into a post in your
discussion web.

You just can't do this with the FP board, it's not designed this way.

What you'll need to do is find a message board/forum that works with your
web host. Your host may even have some canned scripts available or that they
recommend work with their hosting service. Since it's a UNIX server, you'll
probably need a Perl or PHP script, most likely a Perl script. There are
tons of them out there and a lot of them are completely free.

Hope this helps,

There are a few bulletin boards around that allow user signup, login , forum
moderator etc. like "phpBB" and the like (I'm sure there's a suitable
product for your server's setup e.g. Perl/CGI, PHP/MySql, ASP/MsSql/Access
etc.

The FP discussion board is just a simple feature - not too elaborate. But
making it more so would be a good thing to add to the 'wish list' for FP's
next release, as the FAQ rate for this or similar topics is ever increasing.

There was one I used to use "YABB" - "Yet Another Bulletin Board".

It was a Cgi/Perl version, and it worked OK for me. It required a bit of
effort in setting up, so you need a bit of Unix knowledge - mostly all
that's required is setting various file permissions - you can do that easily
through a third party FTP like CuteFTP. This one actually used flat-text
files for its data storage, so no complex DB system was needed.
