Opening some word documents in Office 2004 under Mac OS X 10.4.8
results in a changed modification date. There are some other threads
here describing the problem, but not offering a solution. From what i
could analyze, the problem occurs if:
a) Word has write access to the document (obviously) and
b) The Word document has a STR -16413 resource in its resource fork,
which was used under System 7-9 to store the user name.
If these two conditions are met, the resource will instantly be updated
to the current user name (as entered in Office's Identity) and the
modification date will change.
I have no idea how to fix this behaiour or if this is a bug fixable by
Apple's Carbon Layer or by Office itself. Does anyone have some insight
on this issue?
