Modifications cannot be made, document is locked.

Help!!! I am in urgent need of assistance. I created a Word and Publisher
document recently, however all of a sudden I cannot go back into either to
make revisions. I keep getting the error message indicating that
modifications cannot be made and document is locked. I do not recall making
any changes in my settings. To my knowledge I was not utilizing a trial
version. Help!!! I have a paper due today and cannot fix this. Thanks!

Hi, Debbie. It would help if you said what version of Word/Office you have.
What happens if you start Word and then click on Help | Activate Product?
