Modified Shape Masters have funny effect on Text Placement

I've modified a couple of master shapes by adding some lines and connection
points. if i just add connection points, i don't run into this problem. But
if I modify the drawing presentation by adding lines or curves, the text no
longer goes into the normal text location. Instead it opens a new textbox
right in the middle of the object with a different format.

I can get to the normal text location by clicking repeatedly until it's
chosen as a sub-object, but I assume there's a way for me to tell Visio that
the "old" default text location/object should *still* be the default text
location object.

Can someone tell me how I can accomplish this? I don't seem to have the
right vocabulary to find it using search terms.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you added new shapes to the master in the Master Edit Window.
This forces Visio to treat the master as a group and thus you get the new
behavior. You should instead insert new geometry sections into the existing
master shape. If you really need to add more shapes, convert the existing
shape in the master to a group and add the newly drawn shapes as sub-shapes
to the group.

Thanks Mark. I'm not sure about the difference bewteen a shape and a
geometry section, but with the knowledge that there is a difference, I can
look it up. But you're right, I added shapes. I tried grouping it all
together, but did so after adding them, not before. But I'll take a look at
the geometry sections first.

Thanks again.

Go to Window > Show Shapesheet to see the Geometry section(s) for a shape.
Then choose Insert > Section to add more.
