modify fill color palette?

How can I change/re-assign the color of one of the default fill colors in the
palette? In Excel, I can go to tools-option-color and modify a color in a
specific color position. How do I do that in Word?

There is no provision for custom palettes in any version of Word.

You can do this in Word 2007 using the Themes on the Page Layout Tab.
As far as I know you can't do this in previous versions.
