Modify installation

Does anyone know of a tool that can be used to modify the
installation of office products? I am looking to modify
the msi to include the product serial number, installation
path, and other custom settings. Any help would be great!

I am using both Office XP and 2000. I downloaded the
Microsoft Resource kit, but I get errors when I try to use
it on the original msi.

The CIW is the tool for these issues. However, there are some things you
need to know:

1. The CIW for Office XP can only be used with .msi files for Office XP
2. The CIW for Office 2000 can only be used for .msi files for Office 2000
3. The CIW for Office XP can only be used with Enterprise editions of Office
XP. If your .msi filename has "ret" in the name then you are using a Retail
edition of Office XP and you will not be able to use the CIW.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dubuque,

The Custom Installation Wizards for Office 2000
and Office XP are specific to their versions.
For them to work Office has to be installed to
an Office Admin point and then use the CIW on
that installation. For Office 2000 Retail and
Enterprise/Volume license copies can create
Office Admin Points. For Office XP, retail copies
no longer have that capability.
http://microsoft.com/licensing has volume
license plans for 5 or more MS product (not all
have to Office) licenses.
