Modify local views in Project Pro

Ripper

I am trying to develop a process to allow users to create views that hide
certain fields and then allow them to save that view to their project by
naming it different than the enterprise view. Accotding to the
documentation, this should be an available option. The view gets created as
a duplicate of an existing view and I rename it. It shows up in the drop
down, but when I close project and reopen I get the original view when
selecting the new view. The columns I have hidden are back.

Any help out there?

You have to do two things.

a. Modify Table
b. Modify View

Just associate the unique View with the unique Table, as follows:

-------------------------
a. Modify Table
-------------------------
1. Go to VIEW then TABLE:ENTRY (default) then MORE TABLES
2. Quickest way is select ENTRY and click on COPY
3. Type in a name, such as "Short List"
4. Click on OKAY, no need to modify anything here.
5. Click on CANCEL

-------------------------
b. Modify View
-------------------------
6. Go to VIEW then MORE VIEWS
7. Quickest way is select GANTT CHART and click on COPY
8. Name the same as the table for easy reference, i.e. "Short List"
9. Under "Table" find the table "Short List"
10. Click "Show in Menu" if you want to see it on the main list
11. Click on "Apply"
12. Go to VIEW and you should see view "Short List" with link to table
"Short List"
13. Add or delete columns as needed.

That's it.

In Microsoft Project, the definition of a View is as follows:

View = Table + Filter + Group + Screen

To create your new View, your first step should be to copy a Table and then
rename the copy. In this new Table, hide the columns you do not wish to
see. Then copy a View and rename the new View. In the definition of the
new custom View, select the new custom Table you just created. Also, if you
wish to use this new custom View and Table in any project, click Tools -
Organizer and then copy both the new View and the new Table to your
Global.mpt file. Hope this helps.
