Modifying a linked table.

I have a table in Access linked to a text file. One of
the fields must be as TEXT, even though it is a number,
because it is joined to many other linked tables on that
field as text data type. So, I need to do one of the
following things from Access:

1. Is there ANY way to change the Data Type of a Field in
a linked table?

or

2. How do I strip off the first two characters in a Field
of a linked table?

thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

You can't change the data type of a field in a linked table, but you can
specify the field types used as you set up the link. Delete the linked
table and re-create it using the wizard, and one of the later windows
allows you to select field types.

If you want to save the setup for future re-use, click the Advancd
button in the wizard and save it as an import specification.
