Modifying Outline Numbers

S

Scott

Hello,

I have a project with the typical outline coding that starts with 1, then
1.1, then 1.2. Since my project is a part of a larger project, I'd like my
outline to read 6, then 6.1, then 6.2.

How do I change my outline to start at 6 as opposed to 1?

Thanks,
Scott

Hello Scott,

The only method I'm familiar with is to use a custom WBS code which
you define. Go to Project > WBS > Define Code. For the first
level, you'll need to choose the mask of Characters - Unordered.
You can then set the rest of the level to Numbers - ordered. The
down side is you'll have to manually add the numbers (starting at 6)
for your summary tasks -- Project will then use those starting
numbers to number the subtasks 6.1, 6.1.1, etc.

The other option is not to worry about the outline numbers for your
piece. Consolidate the multiple projects and apply the outline
numbers to the master project.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
