Modifying Presentation

I am having a problem modifying powerpoint presentations
that were created on someone else's computer. If the
presentation was created on my laptop there is no problem.
When I open the presentation there is no problem until I
try and add slides, then the laptop will just freeze, and
I need to use ctrl+alt+delete to close powerpoint.
Running windows XP home edition and MS office XP.

Any help would be appreciated.
