I have a have an existing database which I want to design and link a form to.

My problem here i want to be able to modify the sql statement to filter out
certain records from display, but when I do this I lose the ability to select
these fields from the table linked to within the database.

Is there a specific sql syntax I can use which I can use to filter out
records which i don't use but at the same time allow me to access all fields
and also be able to write to the source table with the database?

Can you explain more clearly what the problem is that you are trying
to solve (without saying how you are attempting to solve it in
InfoPath)? For example, what types of information are you retrieving,
and what you what you want to display and what you want not to
display.
