Month returns

If I have a cell with a date in it, format dd-mmm-yy, is
there a formula that returns the month within that cell.
I have used MONTH() but it returns it only as a number
and I cannot seem to format it correctly. I'd like to
return the month in the format mmm.

Just format the date (or a copy of it in another cell, if you wish) as mmm.

If your cell is in A1, in B1 place =A1 and format as "mmm".

Or if you want a text string, then =TEXT(A1,"mmm")
