More on Outlook 2003 "appropriate permission"

Martin

After a Windows XP HE re-install, I restored my Outlook 2003 files (*.pst,
*.pab, etc.) from a Novaback backup. Unfortunately, I changed the machine
name and user name when re-installing Windows.

I logged on as System Administrator in safe-mode and (I thought) I fixed the
permissions for these files to allow me to use them. I was then allowed to
copy them from the backup and tie Outlook to them. I have access to all the
messages and contacts when I start Outlook.

The problem I am now having is when I press the "Send/Receive" button, I get
the message:

You don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation.

I use this computer for my business and really need to use Outlook again.
Can someone please help?

Thanks!

Martin

Did you backup the profile from the old set up? If so, try a new profile.

Hello Diane,

Thanks for the reply. I might be dense, but what exactly do you mean
"profile" and how do I do it?

A mail profile is a structure in the Windows Registry that determines
connectivitiy settings for the various services Outlook needs. In Control
Panel, you can access mail profiles with the Mail applet.

Thanks!!! I was able to go in there and create a new profile that matched
that of the file. I'm all set.... I think.
