More RAM Helpful?

J

John O'Quin

I will be upgrading to Access XP Professional soon. I
currently have Compaq 1.8GHz, P4 w 512MB RAM and 20 GB
HD. I plan to upgrade to 80GB HD.

Can anyone tell me if more RAM is beneficial? I can
upgrade to 1 gig RAM for not a lot more, but to go to the
3 gig max is pretty expensive.

I am working with large .mdb files (300-500 MB--approx
2,000,000 rows), and performance is my main goal. My
Access 97 is too slow now for these size files, which is
why I am upgrading to XP.

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

Are the access files on a network?
Have you optimized your queries/forms? (indexes?)
Are the code/data in a seperate database?

Your pc should manage such databases quite easily.
I should look to optimize some things first.
