More screen space needed on Microsoft word 2008

H

Harold Cherashore

I am writing a play and I want more screen space top to bottom. How do I
maximize this space...removing or shrinking dock at bottom..or ... Shrinking
menua at the top? How do I do this?

Thanks,

Harris

Hi Harris -

With 2008 you have few options since the toolbars are a part of the document
window:

1- Re the Dock - by all means. Useful as it is, don't allow it to eat up any
more screen space than absolutely necessary. I've set mine to disappear
until I go fishing for it at the bottom of the screen. It can also be moved
to either side (horizontal) to free up vertical space.

2- Use the program's Preferences to collapse the new Gallery. Buttons will
still occupy some of the space - you can't get rid of them - but it will
free up several lines of space.

3- Look into creating a custom toolbar with just the tools you need - *that*
one you'll be able to float and/or dock vertically. Then (I think) you can
still turn off [at least one of] the built-in toolbars.

4- Make use of the Formatting Palette/Toolbox - position it to the left or
right of the doc window.

In Word, you can also:

5--use Draft View to not waste space on showing margins

6--turn off the status bar and horizontal scroll bar in Word |
Preferences | View

7--turn off the ruler via View | Ruler

re 3--all the built-in toolbars that show in the document window can be
turned off.

.... And I almost forgot - the little jellybean in the upper right corner can
be used to collapse & expand the toolbar area.
