mosearch.exe is evil - is a hard disk destroyer

I loaded office xp on computer running windows 98.
It loaded some kind of search indexing process called
mosearch.exe.
I later found that my hard-drive was working furiously for
long periods of time (hours over period of weeks) when
unattended.
After lots of hunting it seems I finally found culprit was
this worthless, destructive utility that came with office.
I got tip from www.answersthatwork.com

And indexing your documents for easier data retrieval is evil? And just
what religion holds this belief? What destruction did you witness, is
this the new Armageddon?
